You can detect and monitor external events by using a smoke detector to have all the lights in the house flash when triggered, or a temperature sensor to activate your thermostat when the temperature gets too high or too low, the applications are virtually endless. You can create timers that send commands after a pre-set amount of time, from 1 second to 255 minutes, and change the behavior of the inputs relative to INSTEON commands that are sent, the group, number, the order of commands, etc. The EZIO6I works with several home automation software programs such as mControl, Homeseer and Indigo, each sold separately. Alternatively, you can use a free SimpleHomeNet Utility Suite software to setup your device. The interface module is a plug-in device, so you can eliminate long run wiring complications by simply plugging the device in at the closest point to your sensors. | | | |

Incompatible and unmaintained Apr 20, 2010 The device is incompatible with Universal Devices ISY line. Months of finger pointing between SmartHome, UDI, and SimpleHomeNet have yet to net results. UDI really wants to fix it and is begging for technical input from anyone/everyone, SimpleHomeNet says they're using SmartHome's chip and it should work, and SmartHome says nothing. Several people I know have been afflicted with this thing (and its bretheren in the EZIO line) and have similar issues.
Changes made (apparently by smarthome) to the chipset they sell to SimpleHomeNet have rendered even the SimpleHomeNet diagnostic software broken, yet no fix is in sight.
The unit *does* work as advertised if you only use 'manual linking' and not the SimpleHomeNet software or the ISY-99 to program it. If it worked its feature set is excellent and I've had good luck interfacing to a wacky alarm panel and garage door sensors, however I can't integrate it into my system as the controller (ISY-99) or the simplehomenet diagnostic s/w corrupt the link database and brick or corrupt the unit (at least you can recover with a factory reset).
