Very good product Jul 07, 2010 I ve installed 4 of them in my house b/c city required to run daycare at my house. I was about to hire electrician to get the job done this product saved me hundred of dollars thanx to Kidde
This product solved my problem Mar 24, 2010 Recovering from a house fire is never a pretty task. We were faced with the necessity of upgrading the smoke detection system in our home because the damaged area needed to be brought up to current code. We could install smoke detectors in five rooms damaged by the fire and interconnect them easily with hard wire, but we had an existing smoke detector on another floor that could not be hard wire connected. Purchasing two of these units allowed for all of the detectors in our home to be interconnected without the necessity of tearing up any more of the house.
The system works great. Now, if any of the detectors activates, they all go off (yes, the noise gets our attention) and the alarm can be silenced from any unit, too. Then it is possible to find which unit alarmed by looking at the indicator light.
Just what we needed. I would recommend this system for anyone needing similar capability.
Smoke alarm review Mar 04, 2010 Purchased three of these units to replace three existing hard wired ones that were 15 years old. I hadn't known they are suppose to be replaced every 10 years. They were easy to install and I had to use the adapter connectors so it meant rewiring them, which was simple. Just make sure you turn off the power. Tested them and they worked fine. I know they work properly, because a couple of weeks after installation some cheese fell off a pizza in the oven and burned. I had a cold and didn't smell it but all of the alarms sounded. I used the "Hush" feature which beats waving a towel to silence them.
There is a spot to write the installation date on the unit so you can tell when to replace them in 10 years. It is comforting to know they are there and working.

Beware when buying from home improvement stores Dec 02, 2009 I purchased the battery wireless smoke alarm units RF-SM-DC from a large chain home improvement store for a home I just purchased. I wanted to extend the existing hard-wired system without having to add additional wiring into the bedrooms. After getting home and reading the directions (the packaging directions were not real clear), I found I needed one hardwired AC wireless smoke alarm RF-SM-AC to replace one of my existing hardwired units. Unfortunately, the home improvement store didn't have the hard wired unit and the sales people didn't have a clue that one was required. They said they would get some, but so far, nothing. I may have to go to Amazon to get one to complete my project.
Disillusioned with retail home improvement sales unit.
Simple, Worry-Free Extension of an Existing Wired Smoke Alarm System Nov 27, 2009 My home has a lot of 120V wired Firex smoke detectors that are interconnected to my monitored house alarm. Unfortunately, the prior owners did not install a smoke detector in what I consider to be a key room. I did not want to keep the door open all the time, so this room really needed its own smoke detector. Extending the existing wired system would have been a real pain involving small attic crawlspaces. This product allowed me to create a hybrid interconnected wired and wireless system. I replaced a nearby wired smoke detector with this interconnect unit and installed a battery powered wireless smoke detector in the target room, making sure the two units had identical DIP switch settings so they'd link up. It works great, and since it interconnects with my wired system, the new room is covered by my monitored house alarm.
