Shure sounds good ... Jun 25, 2010 The Shure SES30PTH sound isolating earphones performed as expected. Of course they do not isolate all background sounds, but they do reduce it quite a bit if you have a good seal with the earpieces and your ear. In order to get good bass, you must have a good seal. I have been able to wear the earphones comfortably over an hour. The Push-to-Hear control is pretty nice if you need it. Being able to push a button and hear your surroundings without removing the earpieces is convenient. The audio in the earpiece is attenuated when the switch for P-to-T is on. The audio quality of the surrounding or someone speaking to you is not great, but it's good enough. One thing I noticed was that the audio is monaural, since there is only one microphone. The problem with that is you cannot tell what direction sounds are coming. That is not a big deal when you know the source of the sound, e.g., someone speaking to you. If you are crossing a street and a car horn blows, you will not know what direction it came.
I gave customer service five star, but I did not need to contact them. There is not option to rate anything not applicable.
Great headphones Jun 21, 2010 The Shure SE530PTH have an amazing quality sound. They sound better than most of the headphones in the retail market. I have a pair Bose on ear headphones which have a great sound as well; However, after compare both of them the Shure SE530PTH sounded much better. Another great advantage of this headphones is the comfort and design which allows you use them for long periods of time without any annoyance. Moreover they are great for listen your music while jogging or riding your bike, also they are very comfortable to sleep whit. To me, the only issue with the Shure SE530PTE is their bass, this headphones are not the best when it comes to sounds with a lot bass. Having said that, it depends a lot in the type of music you will listen to. So overall, this headphones are definitely one the top in their price range. If you are looking for something better that this headphones, then you will probably have to look for headphones like the Grado PS1000 or similar, but the may cost well over $1,400.
Very Good but Very Expensive May 22, 2010 A little more bass would have been nice, but I guess they're about as good as it gets for such small speakers. I also think the push to hear (PTH) switch is a bit difficult to use. Maybe a button would have been better? I also would have liked a slightly larger case. The one provided isn't large enough to fit the PTH. Overall, they're very good, but let's face it they're also very expensive.
I am very pleased with these earphones May 14, 2010 Initially when I bought these, I bought them specifically for the purpose of going to the gym. I have some nice sennheiser headphones (which I bought here for around 200 bucks), but I didn't feel comfortable wearing them at the gym. I'd say that my Shure earbuds actually wind up delivering much better sound than my over-the-ear headphones. I've also got a logitech 5.1 system which is great, but doesn't even compare to the sound these deliver.
I'm very satisfied with the purchase, but buying these wasn't really much of an investment so I wasn't expecting much out of it.
Crystal Clear Sound Apr 29, 2010 As many have stated previously about this headphone, the midrange is perfectly neutral and punchy. You hear a lot of details but it does lack at the very high end and the very low end. But it's not like you sit there and think about what it lacks, you think about and notice what it excels in. I enjoy listening to a lot of electronic music and it's perfect for what I want. I like listening to rap and hip hop too, but the Shures don't get quite low enough to really make those tracks really light up. I mean, it's not bad, but it's not amazing.
I use the Shure olive tips in the small size. I scrunch them up and let them expand into my ears. It creates a pretty solid seal and I even use them for running. With the silicone ones, I have to keep pushing them in and they eventually start to hurt my ears. Buds fitment really vary depending on the person and the ear size. I am considering getting a custom fit piece for that ultimate listening experience.
When I plug this into most of the electronics I use, I notice that the volume is significantly louder as compared to my other Sony inner ear monitors I've been using for a while. I've had the E4C previously and that stopped working after a while. Not sure why but it's been sitting in my desk for about 2 years. It would cost me over a hundred to fix it. It's significantly better than that headphone. Many people talk about buzzing and that you really need an amp to really get the most out of them. When I plug it into my iPhone 3G, it's super quiet. When I plug it into my Macbook 13" Pro, I hear a buzzing. When I plugged it into my Pioneer Elite home AV receiver, there is buzzing, but I hear the newer receivers have settings optimized for headphones.
I do think that there are some better ones out there like the Westone 3, but it's out of my price range. The SE530's can dip close to $200 while the Westone 3 remains about $100 more expensive. If they were the same price, I would pick them over this one, but it's not $100 better. While the Shures are all about round smooth sound with emphasis on the mids, the Westone 3 is more exciting with emphasis on the highs and lows.
